Hampton Roads Academy
Senior Project -Trip Gilmore - Class of 2016
My grandfather, Dr. Ernest P. Buxton III, was a significant part of the Hampton Roads community for the majority of his medical career. He started the first gastrointestinal laboratory in Newport News in 1974. This led to the opening of Peninsula Gastroenterology in 1976 with Dr. John R. Stephens. Dr. Buxton practiced medicine until his retirement in 2007.
One of his favorite activities after his retirement was playing golf with his friends, wife and grandson (me: Trip Gilmore). He was and still is a major part of my life. He introduced me to golf. We played countless rounds together at James River Country Club.
In September of 2011, he fractured his neck and had a long recovery. The day before his accident, I was fortunate to play a round of golf with him and G.G. Even more fortunate was that it was not our last round together. He told me that his accident improved his game, because it kept his head down.
He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December of 2014 and passed away in March 2015. My idea is to honor my grandfather’s memory by organizing a golf tournament in his name for my Senior Project at Hampton Roads Academy.  Please join us in a special
9 Hole Tournament on March 9, 2016.

Ladies Season Long Match Play-Ask a partner and Sign up in March!

Ladies Season Long Match Play

All players with a handicap are eligible for Match Play.  The format is Four Ball Match Play with handicaps.  Each player plays her own ball, and each team uses the better net score of its two players. A hole won is worth one point and holes tied are worth a half point for each team.  Winners of each match will be awarded Pro Shop credits.

Players may choose their own partner for the season, or sign up to play and be paired with someone.  Sign-ups will be handled by the Pro Shop 596-3112.  The list of teams will be posted in the Ladies Locker Room and the Pro Shop will have a list. Teams will play against each other one time.

The 18 hole matches will be scheduled at the players' mutual convenience. When tee times are made for the match, the Pro Shop will make up a card for the match, listing players handicaps.

Matches are to be played between April 1 and October 31.  Players are asked to schedule their matches on days other than Tuesday.
